About the Event
VOCA is excited to host its 2nd Annual Creative Arts Summer Camp for the BIPOC Deaf, hard of hearing, and CODA youths from 5th to 12th grade in Washington, DC this summer. There are no organizations other than VOCA in D.C. that provide arts programming by and for this population. Therefore, we seek to fill this critical unmet need in the Washington, D.C. area. VOCA offers a comprehensive creative arts summer camp program taught by BIPOC Deaf and hard of hearing artists. The teaching artists are:
- Stella Antonio - Intro to Acting
- Niesha Washington - ASL Storytelling/Poetry
- Mervin Primeaux-O’Bryant - Dance
- Karry Takeuchi - Visual Arts
- Teddy Dorsette III - Film
The camp will take place at THEARC, 1901 Mississippi Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020 for two weeks, from July 11th to July 22nd, 2022. The camp is scheduled Monday thru Friday, starting at 9:00 am and ending at 2:50 pm. Each class is about 50 minutes long, with a 45-minute lunch break.
The deadline to register for the camp is June 27th.
